Vertebrae Bead Workshop

May 17 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

$375

Two -day intermediate workshop with guest artist Marcia Kmack.

May 17 & 18, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The Vertebrae Bead workshop will focus on the components and skills required to successfully complete two and three disk beads, as well as perfecting your skills that can be applied to many other forms. We will start with basic disk skills needed, whether making a small disk on a 1/16” mandrel or large pendant disks, up to 30mm, or more, on 1/4” mandrels. Students will learn to make multiple consistent same size beads, disks and donut shapes, on a mandrel. We will learn to pull accurate and consistent 2-3mm 18” stringers. We will experiment with several ways to apply a stringer wrap to the disks to define the shape. After working on heat control, reading the negative spaces to achieve a symmetrical bead and learning how to bend and shape the disks without breaking the bead release. Next we will move on to three or more disks.

COE glass and lunches are provided in this class.

Due to the minimum number needed for this class – there will be no refunds on this class, unless we are able to fill your spot.

About Marcia:

“A degree in graphic arts has taken me in many directions over the years. I’ve worked as a magazine layout artist, game box designer, cartographer, potter, and K-6 elementary art program developer.

No other media, however, has held my attention like glass. I’ve worked exclusively with Italian glass from Murano, making beads for over 20 years. Originally, my teaching studio was in Cave Creek AZ, now my solo studio is at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, in Pagosa Springs CO. My style is greatly influenced by geometry, color, and the rhythm of repeating shapes. I feel that each bead stands alone as a tiny art form or strung together, they become wearable sculptures.”
